John O’Reilly, an experienced executive with extensive background in the UK betting and gaming sector, will be named a non-executive director of the UK Tote Group, effective 1 May. The operator of the nation’s popular pool betting services shared the announcement on Monday.
John Williamson, chair of the UK Tote Group, emphasized the appointment as a key addition to the board’s knowledge. “John will offer crucial assistance to the Tote team, especially regarding product development and customer experience,” Williamson stated.
Williamson also noted the recent board appointment of Andrew Weir in April, viewing these moves as part of a wider board renewal plan. These domains are strategic focus areas as the Tote aims to expand its pool betting operations both at home and abroad.
Commenting on his forthcoming role, O’Reilly said he sees it as “a highly valuable position” for the Tote in influencing the future of horse racing in the UK, Ireland, and worldwide. Citing recent innovations and growth at the firm as evidence of progress, he voiced optimism about what lies ahead.
“Through continued improvements to the pool product, along with cultivating stronger international collaborations, I believe the Tote’s finest days are yet to come,” O’Reilly added.
Many years of sector knowledge
O’Reilly contributes over three decades of high-level industry experience to the position. He resigned as CEO of Rank Group PLC earlier this year, after seven and a half years leading the casino and bingo giant. CFO Richard Harris assumed the role of interim CEO while the firm looks for a permanent successor.
Before his time at Rank Group, he occupied senior roles at several of the UK’s leading gambling companies, including Ladbrokes and William Hill.
Beyond the commercial sphere, O’Reilly presently serves as chair of Weatherbys, a horseracing organization. He additionally acts as a trustee for the New Bridge Foundation charity.
